Taiwan and the U.S. state of Kansas have formalized a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to enhance trade and economic collaboration across various sectors, including aerospace, aviation, biotechnology, animal health, precision agriculture, and advanced air mobility. This agreement was signed at the Kansas State Capitol by Debby Huang, Director-General of Taiwan’s representative office in Denver, and Kansas Lieutenant Governor David Toland. Both parties emphasized their dedication to fostering mutually beneficial partnerships and expanding commercial opportunities.
The MOU is set to provide a structured framework for future cooperation between businesses and institutions in both Taiwan and Kansas, building on previous visits by Kansas officials to Taiwan. Those visits focused on potential collaboration in investment, advanced technology, education, and talent development.
In addition to this trade agreement, the University of North Georgia has announced plans to establish a Taiwan studies center aimed at strengthening academic ties between Taiwan and the United States. The center will concentrate on international relations, defense education, and Indo-Pacific security through research, policy discussions, and educational exchanges.
Taiwanese representatives have highlighted the critical importance of maintaining stability across the Taiwan Strait, given Taiwan’s significant role in global semiconductor and advanced technology supply chains. This underscores the broader context in which Taiwan is seeking to deepen its economic, educational, and strategic partnerships with the United States and other international partners.
Furthermore, Taiwan is actively preparing for upcoming activities under the Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) with its international partners. These activities will address topics such as maritime security, disaster preparedness, supply chain resilience, and artificial intelligence, reflecting a concerted effort to promote cooperation in emerging technologies and regional security.
