China Warns Philippines Over Actions in South China Sea Dispute

China has urged the Philippines to halt what it termed as provocative actions in the South China Sea, emphasizing that its coast guard will persist in safeguarding China’s territorial sovereignty and maritime interests. This call followed a recent Philippine supply mission to a grounded vessel at Ren’ai Jiao, known internationally as Second Thomas Shoal.

According to Beijing, the Philippine vessel entered the area despite receiving warnings from Chinese authorities. China’s coast guard monitored the Philippine supply ship during the mission and issued warnings, which Beijing asserts were lawful measures to protect its interests in the region.

The Chinese government has accused the Philippines of breaching its commitments under the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea. China argues that such actions by the Philippines could potentially destabilize regional peace and stability.

In response to these developments, Beijing has stated its intention to continue law-enforcement operations around Ren’ai Jiao and other parts of the Nansha Qundao, as China refers to the Spratly Islands. These actions are part of China’s broader strategy to uphold its claimed maritime rights in the disputed waters.
