An agreement to form the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO) has been signed by representatives from 29 countries in Shanghai. This new independent intergovernmental entity is set to spearhead global efforts in fostering collaboration on artificial intelligence.

The founding countries of WAICO include Kazakhstan, Laos, Pakistan, Russia, Indonesia, and China, among others. These nations are coming together to support a framework that encourages cooperation and harmonizes efforts to address the complexities and opportunities AI presents.
