China has launched a new research center aimed at enhancing the protection and scientific oversight of Jiuzhai Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Sichuan Province. This initiative is designed to bolster the management of the heritage site by integrating scientific methodologies into its conservation strategies.
The focus of the research center will be multi-faceted, addressing key areas such as geological hazard prevention and the ecological restoration following past earthquakes. It will also concentrate on preserving the valley’s distinctive travertine landscapes and the ecosystems within its lakes, alongside conducting long-term environmental monitoring.
Jiuzhai Valley, which spans approximately 720 square kilometers, is celebrated for its stunning natural beauty, featuring crystal-clear lakes, majestic waterfalls, and glacial landscapes.
