Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for enhanced cooperation between China and Germany, emphasizing the need for both nations to support multilateralism and free trade. In a phone call with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on Monday, Wang advocated for increased economic and strategic collaboration amid global economic challenges.
Wang urged Germany to maintain adherence to the one-China principle, which is crucial for stability across the Taiwan Strait. He highlighted the importance of resolving economic and trade differences between China and the European Union through dialogue rather than confrontation.
German Foreign Minister Wadephul expressed optimism about the positive momentum in Germany-China relations. He supported the idea of stronger high-level exchanges and emphasized the importance of cooperation in trade and economic affairs. Wadephul also reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to the one-China policy.
The conversation between the two ministers also touched upon international issues, including the situations in Iran and Ukraine. Wang stated that China is committed to supporting peace efforts and aims to strengthen communication with both Germany and the European Union.
